Higher survival rates, an increase in the incidence of chronic disease, and an aging population means that the demand for complex continuing care services is continuing to grow as individuals face increasingly complex health issues. Our 224-bed Complex Continuing Care program recognizes that and is continuously evolving to meet the highly specialized needs of adults with complex physical and/or cognitive conditions that limit their ability to move to the next phase of their recovery, or, to live independently in the community. Supported by a compassionate, inter-professional health care team, patients in our program are encouraged to achieve their best possible quality of life through care plans personalized to their individual needs.

Complex Medical Services are provided for people with complex chronic and often fluctuating physical conditions such as complex chronic illness, end stage kidney failure, multi-system decline, diabetes and/or advanced degenerative disorders such as multiple sclerosis. Within Complex Medical Services our services include general complex continuing care, palliative care, special care, dialysis and a variety of specialty clinics. Respite care is also available. Our Low Tolerance Long Duration (LTLD) rehabilitation program addresses the needs of individuals whose lives have been affected by a neurological injury or illness or by a complicated medical illness, surgical procedure or trauma. One of the few programs of its kind in the GTA, it involves a longer course of rehabilitation than traditional active rehabilitation programs, with patients spending shorter periods of time in therapy each day. Located at the E.W. Bickle Centre for Complex Continuing Care in the heart of one of Parkdale's flourishing residential communities, the Complex Continuing Care program offers patients and families a picturesque, park-like setting for visiting or for enjoying outdoor activities. Guided by a wellness philosophy of care, we work closely with those in our care to help achieve the best possible experience for both patients and families during their time with us. |
